@coldbluerain From the clip, it sure seemed like his colleagues and his wife don’t agree with you! A hair transplant’s not going to turn you into a teenager, but most people look significantly more youthful and healthy with hair.

@crazyredlion4500 Without propecia, you will certainly lose more non-transplanted hair over time. If you’re ok with more transplants and you have enough donor hair, no problem. Most patients commit to propecia for the ‘long haul’ — especially if they’re undergoing a hair transplant!

@crazyredlion4500 WHOA! Who told you that? I think you’ve got some wrong info there. If you only took propecia for a year, you’d only stop future hair loss for a year. Male Pattern Hair Loss is a chronic, progressive condition–it gets worse without treatment. The transplanted hair is permanent, but your other hair is not. Propecia stops the otherwise inevitable progression of the loss of the non-transplanted hair.

@alanbauman Thanks for the information. I have been reading on the internet about the use of Propecia with hair transplants and it is my understanding that you need to use Propecia for one year after the transplant. Would that be correct?

@crazyredlion4500 Without Propecia, hair loss will likely continue. Data shows that 75% of men NOT on Propecia will look “MUCH WORSE” 75% of the time over the next five years. Without Propecia, you are taking a risk, in my opinion. You might need additional procedures if hair is lost behind or between the transplants over time.

@alanbauman I have question. I have no hair loss at all on my crown and I am almost 39 years old. I am getting a hair TP in about 2 weeks. I am having hair added to the front only and I have been told that I did not lose very much. I realize that later in life I may still lose more hair. But if not will I still need Propecia? Thank you.

@Emblemz Changing your hairline with a hair transplant is certainly possible. Your hair transplant surgeon should guide you ‘artistically’ as to what is normal and what is not in order to avoid an ‘obvious’ problem. Modern hair transplant procedures should be 100% undetectable, but this has a lot to do with the artistry of the design of the transplanted hairline and technique. Procedures are virtually painless with easy recovery–just ask Jim Abath!

@AlexanderScorp Finasteride 1mg/day works 90% of the time to stop the progression of male pattern hair loss. The best way to track your results is using standardized digital photos (performed by a Hair Restoration Physician), hair density and hair caliber tracking. Remember that some shedding each day (100-200 hairs) is normal due to the cycling of follicles on and off. Sincerely, Dr. Bauman

@jshyne172 Thank you for your message. Having a hair transplant and not using some kind of treatment to prevent future hair loss is a big risk, in my opinion. Hair loss is a progressive condition so without treatment, it will continue. Well over 95% of hair transplant patients in my practice are using Propecia (or similar tx). Also, letting all of your hair fall out before taking action, is not a great idea either! Sincerely, Dr. B.

Hi, Mr. Bauman, I,ve been losing my hair for the last two years, it`s a moderate falling, Ì`m using Folister for 8 months (Finasteride 1mg per day) but I don`t see any results at the time. The falling doesn`t stop and I don`t know why?

Hi Mr. Bauman
I have been losing my hair for the pass two and a half years and the top of my crown looks thinner than ever I plan on getting a Hair transplant procedure with you after doing extensive research but first I am going to let the rest of the hair thats on pace to fall out. When I get a HT is it possible that I won’t have to use Propecia? Reason I ask because I dont want to be the 1.8% that experiences the side effects if so please let me know Thank you and continue your great work
